The second most disguisting thing I've found in my apartment.

So last night I'm trying to study; productive hour, followed by unproductive hour, followed by productive hour.  It's getting late, it's hot, and my fan's been on all night long.  The laptop shuts down, the fan goes off, and I'm ready to go to sleep.

And then I get up to turn off the light.

At first I start killing them one by one. Where did they come from? (Did I leave some food out or something?) I smash a couple dozen but more and more keep trickling in towards the light. I take a step and look down at the couch and find more little bodies on the cushions. I move the couch out of the way so the rest of the bodies can fall on the floor:

Hundred and hundreds of little fruit flies (or whatever they are); some dead, some dying, and some still buzzing around my light.

I start sweeping them up (and I start sweeping my walls). I make a nice little pile and cover them all with a piece of paper.

*crunch*

It takes a couple tries and I still can't stamp them all out.

From what I understand, this happens every once in a while and when it does, it means that a big storm's about to his the island. (And it wasn't just my apartment that was hit.) Yeah, I saw some rain today, but I don't know if it's the heaviest I've ever seen.

The ones that I missed died eventually on their own.

Here's the aftermath from the outside, the day after:

And here's how they got in:

[And if you're wondering, the most disgusting thing I've found was a pot full of maggots after I left a pot with a single chicken leg on the counter for a couple days.  It was covered but there was a small hole in the lid (for steam).]

It works for ants!! I guess it'll work for al insects that like food too...
